Changes often force us to adapt in ways we’ve never experienced, which can be a major driver of personal (and even professional) growth and development.

How to Login

All Cal Poly faculty, staff, and students have access to Canvas as long as they are enrolled in or teaching a course within Canvas. Faculty can choose to use Canvas OR PolyLearn for Summer 2020.

If you are a student and you are not sure which LMS your instructor is using, please go to Where is my course for help.

  1. Go to the Cal Poly Portalhttps://my.calpoly.edu
  2. Type your Cal Poly Username and Password in the top left sign-in box. Username is your Cal Poly email address (dsmith@calpoly.edu), and your Central UNIX password.
  3. Click on the Cal Poly Canvas link under My Apps (left) or the Canvas button under the My Classes channel (right).

Sept. 10, 2020, the Portal's (my.calpoly.edu) > My Classes Portlet changed to provide Canvas buttons for faculty and students. PolyLearn-Moodle will still be available via the PolyLearn Home box below (4). Although you will not be teaching in PolyLearn-Moodle in the Fall, you will have access to your courses to backup, download, and save information.

You can STILL access your PolyLearn-Moodle courses until August 29, 2021. Click on the PolyLearn Home link (4). In PolyLearn, click on the My Courses button on the right and search for your course.

New My Classes Portlet

Due to Canvas limitations, we were not able to provide course published button (line removed from Canvas button) or the "other Canvas access" button.

Faculty have access to:

  1. Canvas Dashboard from the My Apps list (access to “other” no credit courses)
  2. Canvas button – goes to the Canvas Dashboard (faculty will always have access if the course is published or not)
  3. Faculty Center and Canvas Support site
  4. PolyLearn homepage for materials and student participation from previous quarters. https://polylearn.calpoly.edu > From PolyLearn, click on the My Courses button on the left.

Students have access to:

  1. Canvas Dashboard from the My Apps list (access to “other” no credit courses)
  2. Canvas button – goes to the Canvas Dashboard (students will see the button, but only be able to open the course in the Dashboard if published)
  3. Canvas Support site
  4. PolyLearn homepage for materials and to participate, if the course is still available. https://polylearn.calpoly.edu  > From PolyLearn, click on the My Courses button on the left.

Once the Canvas course is published, the student will be able to access it from the Portal's > My Classes Portlet right away (no more 4hr refresh).

Any changes (instructor of record/add/drop) will take the next morning for the Portal's  > My Classes Portlet to change.
