How to Login

All Cal Poly faculty, staff, and students have access to Canvas as long as they are enrolled in or teaching at Cal Poly.

  1. Go to the Cal Poly Portal
  2. Type your Cal Poly Username and Password in the top left sign-in box. Username is your Cal Poly email address (, and your Central UNIX password.
    NOTE: Starting Dec. 9, everyone MUST us DUO - multi-factor authentication. If you need help logging into the Portal - please contact the

    NOTE: Students, if you see Not Yet Available your instructor has not published the course for students. Please ask your instructors to publish.

  4. From the Canvas - Dashboard, click on the course card.

    NOTE: If you don't see the course on the Dashboard, click on Courses > All Courses


PolyLearn - Moodle 

You can STILL access your PolyLearn-Moodle courses until August 29, 2021.

Faculty will need to access their OLD PolyLearn courses to Export their Gradebooks (Fall 2017 - Summer 2020) and save them to OneDrive before Aug. 29, 2021.
You can view the policy - CSU: Records/Information Retention and Disposition Schedule: 4.2.22 online, which requires faculty to save full Gradebooks for up to five years.

How to access PolyLearn - Moodle:

  4. Login with your Cal Poly account.  
  5. Click on the My Courses button (left menu). 
  6. Look for your course and click on it. 

PolyLearn Moodle

How to download Grades from PolyLearn - Moodle:
Only PolyLearn-Moodle courses from Fall 2017 to Summer 2020 are available for export. 

From the course...

  1. Click on the Grades menu (left side).
  2. Click on the Export tab.
  3. Click on the Excel spreadsheet tab. 
  4. Click on the Download button (bottom).
  5. Make sure that the XLS(x) File is downloaded to your computer and save it in OneDrive (safe for level 2 data) to store for 5 years. 

NOTE: Canvas courses starting Fall 2019, will remain in Canvas until the start of Spring 2022. You can also Export the Grades and save to OneDrive.

How to download exams with student responses from PolyLearn - Moodle:
Only PolyLearn-Moodle courses from Fall 2017 to Summer 2020 are available for export. 

From the course...

  1. Click on the Quizzes menu (left side).
  2. Click on the Attempts link (left).
  3. Click on the Download table data as: Comma separated values(.csv) - Download button.
  4. Save file to your computer and move it to OneDrive (safe for level 2 data) to store for 5 years.
